The Sena Bioresearch & Innovation Academy (SBIA) is a student-founded and student-led movement shaping the future of biosciences in Ghana and Africa. We are a growing community of passionate young scientists, innovators, and change-makers committed to advancing research, building practical skills, and solving real-world challenges through science.
SBIA was founded to fill a critical gap between academic learning and industry needs—by equipping students with hands-on experience, mentorship, and opportunities to lead impactful research and innovation projects.
Through our national structure, university chapters, and strategic partnerships, we are building a platform where science meets creativity, leadership, and community impact.
VISION
To become Africa’s leading student-driven platform for bioscience research, innovation, and industry transformation—bridging the gap between knowledge and real-world impact
MISSION
To equip young Africans in biosciences with the skills, resources, and opportunities to lead groundbreaking research, drive innovation, and build bridges between academia, industry, and society
OUR FOCUS AREAS
We empower students to lead and participate in hands-on, original research projects. By providing mentorship, lab exposure, and collaborative platforms, we foster a culture of scientific inquiry and innovation that addresses real challenges in health, agriculture, environment, and biotechnology
SBIA bridges the gap between theory and practice by organizing intensive workshops, skill-based training, and certifications. Our goal is to build a generation of bioscience students who are not only academically strong but also practically skilled and globally competitive
We actively build partnerships with research institutes, companies, and professionals to give students access to internships, industrial visits, and mentorship. These partnerships help our members understand market needs, apply their knowledge, and position themselves for industry roles.
We provide access to experienced mentors—academics, researchers, industry experts, and alumni—who guide students in research, career planning, personal growth, and leadership. Mentorship is central to how we grow confident, capable, and visionary young scientists.
Our members lead science-based outreach initiatives, including school visits, public health campaigns, and community workshops. We believe bioscience should serve society, and we aim to make science accessible and relevant to local communities
We support students in launching bioscience ventures and building future-ready careers. Through business development support, career coaching, resume and LinkedIn clinics, and access to global opportunities, we help our members move from ideas to impact and from classrooms to careers.
